Notes | Definitely on the mellow side, the Halls has lost its oooomph! at this level. The entry is smooth as silk, but deep rides are inconsistently obtained. No real torque, the whirlpools are mellow. Dogma is almost gone. |

Notes | Couldn\t make the drive to Jimicup this year but we were with you in spirit. 5 guys out sinking today, 2400 is definitely the chundery end of good. 2 foot depression cones. The biggest issue at this level is that the entry eddy surges a lot and can unintentionally modify your approach charc. At lower levels it is calm and predicable. Big rides to be had as always, the longest ones involved getting the double suck after roaming into the convergence with the river right current below the center eddy. Also wanted to document the best levels for the secondary spot DOGMA. This is the spot that is right off the resting/dumping rock on river left, convergence of setup eddy draining off dump rock and current returning to river left from main flow. Trick is getting as close as possible to dump rock without hitting it. Dogma was come and go with surges, I hear it\s better around 2100cfs. Quality @2400 = 3. |

Notes | Really great level. The monster in the deep is easy to control, no unintentional loops. Steve and I both found it harder to thread the needle down the middle channel and avoid bouncing down the eddy walls on either side. The turbulence is easily managed. |

Notes | This level still has a lot of power. Its pretty easy to find the middle channel and avoid crashing into either eddy wall. Lots of unintentional loops if you smack the eddy wall. |

Notes | Changed the flow range to reflect a higher maximum. 2400 cfs is still pretty good, but it can be a major Torque Session. A more reasonable maximum is more like 2600-2700 if you don't mind a whirlpool smack down! The surface is turbulent but it mellows out some at 10-12 feet deep. |

Notes | The Halls of Karma is located at the bottom of Lower Keeney Rapid on the New River Gorge. From the town of Winona high on the river-right plateau, drive down Keeney Creek on a winding dirt road. This road eventually turns to pavement. After you cross Keeney Creek for the fourth time, look for the eighth (8th) turnout on the right. It is about 0.85 miles from the fourth bridge. You can generally park about 3 or 4 cars at this turnout. Directly across from the turnout is a guard rail. Look for the trail that drops into the woods below. Youll likely see a campsite in the clearing below, next to a large boulder. Follow the trail down past the fire ring and boulder to the railroad tracks. Once at the railroad tracks, turn left and walk about 30 feet past a telephone pole. Youll find another well-worn trail leading down through the boulders to the New River. Lots of poison ivy here! The putin is at the bottom of a large amphitheater of terraced rock slabs. The trail should take you right down to it. Paddle upstream 100 yards in a large pool. Halls of Karma is on river left. |

Notes | The USGS Thurmond gauge is an alterntive gauge for the Halls: http://waterdata.usgs.gov/wv/nwis/uv/?site_no=03185400&PARAmeter_cd=00065,00060,62614 Min=1,200 cfs, Max=2,700 cfs, Best=2,000 to 2,200 cfs The USGS Hinton gauge is a good indication of what is happening 12 hours upstream. |
